Merve Hickok is the Senior Research Director of the Center for AI and Digital Policy, and the Founder of AIethicist.org. She is a social researcher, consultant and trainer on AI ethics & policy. Her work on AI is focused on bias, social justice, DE&I, public interest and participatory development and governance. She aims to create awareness, build capacity, and advocate for ethical and responsible development & use of AI. She has been recognized by a number of organizations - most recently as one of the 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics™ – 2021.
Merve is also a Data Ethics Lecturer at University of Michigan, School of Information; Member of the Advisory Board of Turkish Policy Quarterly Journal; Member of the Founding Editorial Board at Springer Nature AI & Ethics journal; Advisor at The Civic Data Library of Context; Member at IEEE work groups on AI standard setting and Open Community for Ethics in Autonomous and Intelligent Systems (OCEANIS) alongside national institutions. Merve is also a member of the Board of Directors at Northern Nevada International Center. NNIC serves as a refugee resettlement agency to help displaced persons and victims of human trafficking, as well as organizing programs for international delegations through the U.S. Department of State
Jacob Turner is an international lawyer and the author of Robot Rules: Regulating Artificial Intelligence (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018). Robot Rules explains why AI is unique, what problems it could cause and how we can solve them. Jacob has lectured on regulating AI at universities including Oxford, Cambridge, NYU, and the Max Planck Institute in Hamburg, as well as at various technology companies, law firms, think tanks and regulatory bodies. Jacob has delivered seminars to the Chinese government and military on AI and national security, at the invitation of the UN. Jacob previously worked in the legal department of a country's Permanent Mission to the UN in New York and as a speechwriter to the Ambassador. He is a former Judicial Assistant to Lord Mance at the UK Supreme Court and the co-author (with Lord Mance) of Privy Council Practice (OUP, 2017). He holds law degrees from Oxford and Harvard.
Matthew is a co-author of the book 'Law and Driverless Cars' to be published in 2018. Matthew is currently a Teaching Fellow in Law at the University of Southampton and a PhD Candidate in Motor Insurance Law at the University of Exeter. Matthew regularly presents internationally for the Motor Insurance Working Party at the Association Internationale De Droit des Assurances (AIDA) and won the AIDA academic prize in 2016. Matthew publishes articles regularly in the UK and internationally on Motor Insurance and Driverless Cars.
Lucy McCormick is a barrister at Henderson Chambers specialising in product liability, with a particular interest in autonomous vehicles. She regularly speaks and writes on this topic, as well as curating a dedicated twitter account, @LawofDriverless. She has recently been commissioned by Routledge to co-author the first legal text on the topic, The Law and Driverless Cars.
